Ultimet alloy is a cobalt-base alloy offering excellent corrosion resistance to many environments, particularly with regard to oxidizing acids and localized corrosion. It also exhibits excellent wear resistance, especially with regards to cavitation-erosion, slurry-erosion and galling. In addition, Ultimet possesses high tensile strength, comparable to many duplex stainless steels. Ultimet alloy is an ideal welding material with exceptional ductility and resistance to weld cracking. It is very easy to apply compared to the traditional wear resistant cobalt based alloys, and multiple layers may be applied with little or no preheat. Besides being available as a wrought and cast product, ULTIMET alloy is also available for welding surfacing applications. One key feature of ULTIMET alloy when compared to other hardfacing materials is its exceptional ductility and resistance to cracking. The all weld metal (AWM) tensile ductility of ULTIMET filler metal is in the 12 percent to 20 percent range, and it is possible to make multiple layer deposits (using room temperature preheat conditions) that do not crack or cross check. Another important advantage of ULTIMET filler material is its availability as a wrought, solid, small diameter wire. This means significant improvements in arc stability, spatter control and weld metal quality when using the gas metal arc welding process. In addition, small diameter solid gas tungsten arc welding filler materials can be an advantage for surfacing of small, intricate parts. |
