Description:

Used as an anvil on the rewinder of a paper machine. The slitting knife runs against the edge of this anvil and is used to trim the sides of the paper and also to cut it to width. |

Problem:

Friction of the knife running against the band or anvil generates heat. This frictional heat will soften the microscopic layers forming the cutting edges of heat treatable steels dulling them. |

Solution:
|
| |
Stellite Alloys do not soften until they reach much higher temperatures so this is not a problem. If the edges stay sharper the amount of sharpening is reduced and also the amount of dust produced is much lower. |
